Welcome to UCLA Bike Buddies
Nervous on your bike? You might just need a buddy.
Scroll down to sign up for, or to be, a Buddy.
UCLA Bike Buddies is a volunteer-run program that connects aspiring cyclists with experienced volunteers who want to see more riders on the roads. Our mission is to get more riders on UCLA streets by reaching out to those who could be hesitant to get on their bikes as it can seem quite overwhelming. By connecting new cyclists with experienced riders and reviewing safety tips and riding together, UCLA Bike Buddies will alleviate any fear or nervousness and give new riders the confidence they need to feel great on the road!
Thanks and ride safe!
Get a Buddy!
You think its time you started riding? Well, you’re in the right place. This page will get you a Bike Buddy and then onto the road!
Bike Buddies are experienced and passionate UCLA cyclists who want to see more folks out on the road. Bike Buddies are here to help you ride properly and safely while showing you how fun it can be. But before your sign-up, take a moment and read about what we do in more detail.
Things you need for meeting your Buddy:
• A fully functional bike
• Lights (for night riding)
• Bike Lock
• Some cash/transit card if you want to take your bike on a bus or train
These are some of the things we can provide:
• Where you need to be on the road
• Traffic Basics
• Properly locking-up
• Building confidence and alleviating nervousness
• Fun times!
And here are some things we are not…
• We can’t fix your bike
• We can’t teach complete beginners how to ride. You must already know how to ride a bike.
What else? Oh, this service is FREE! UCLA Bike Buddies is 100% volunteer-run because we simply want more people out riding at UCLA. The more riders we see, the better the infrastructure will become and the cleaner our world will be. It’s a win-win for everyone.
So, what are you waiting for?! Fill out this form and we’ll get back to you with a Buddy ASAP!
Any questions? Don’t hesitate to contact us at email@example.com.
Become a Buddy!
Thank you for your interest in becoming a Bike Buddy! Bike Buddies are the backbone of the organization and without them, we would not exist. Your role as a mentor will be personally rewarding and lead to an increase of cyclists on our streets and, of course, a better world. Before you sign-up, please review the position description.
Responsibilities of a Bike Buddy include:
• Attending a one-hour training session
• Promoting safe and legal cycling
• Being a passionate cyclist
Once you are a Bike Buddy, you will be meeting with new cyclists to chat, offer tips and ride along their side to help them navigate city streets. This means you will be meeting them at their desired location and eventually riding with them to where they need to go. You can have as many or as few buddies as you want while some you’ll only meet with once and others possibly more. Remember, you will not be responsible for teaching complete beginners how to ride bikes or expected to repair their bike.
Think you’re up for it?! Fill out this form and we’ll get back to you ASAP! Any questions? Don’t hesitate to contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
UCLA Bike Buddies is a volunteer organization with the simple goal of increasing the amount of cyclists on UCLA streets. We do this by improving rider confidence through free one-on-one meetings between trained, seasoned cyclists and anyone who feels they would benefit from the service. Ride meetings incorporate a conversation component that reviews laws, safety and proper etiquette and a riding component that puts it all to practice. Urban cycling can intimidate and scare some and we are here to help riders overcome this feeling while showing how fun it actually is.
UCLA Bike Buddies was formed by a pair of Urban Planning students that dream big. It is operated by the Los Angeles Bicycle Coalition at UCLA in partnership with UCLA Transportation, which sponsors our printed material, promotional opportunities, and training luncheons.
We hope you join us for some fun rides!
